Hole 3
Par 4 |
A delightful short par 4 with trees on the left and right as well as a daunting bunker that guards the right side landing area. The outstanding feature of the hole is the green with a deep swale which cuts diagonally across the middle of the putting surface. Aficionados recognize this feature as especially “Travisesque.” A putter whose ball is on the wrong side of the swale will likely have a difficult time in getting down in two. The green slopes severely from right to left, toward the river. Approach shots that miss to the right will often cost the player an added stroke. Of note to the left of number 3 are the maintenance complex, comprising vehicle barns, weather station, putting green sod farm, tree nursery and the water reservoir. Expanded in 2005 to a capacity of 19 million gallons, the reservoir liberates the Club from costly municipal water and ensures proper irrigation of the course for the foreseeable future. |
